The short version

Some third parties receive your IP address as a normal consequence of using the site. They are named below, because "we collect nothing" would be true of us and misleading about your browser.

What we measure

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It is the reason this policy is short: it sets no cookies, uses no fingerprinting, and builds no profile of individual visitors. What we see is aggregate. How many people read a page, roughly where in the world they were, and which site sent them.

We cannot identify you from it, and we cannot follow you between sites with it. We chose it over the richer alternatives precisely because it does not require us to ask you for anything.

Google Analytics, and your choice about it

We also use Google Analytics 4, which tells us things Cloudflare's counter cannot: which itineraries people actually finish, which searches bring them, and whether a route is read once or planned from. It sets cookies and it sends data to Google.

It does not load until you accept it. This is not the common arrangement where the tag loads immediately in a restricted mode. Nothing is requested from Google's servers, and no cookie is set, until you press Accept on the banner. Press Decline and nothing is ever requested at all. Your choice is remembered in your own browser, not on our server, and the banner does not come back to ask again.

We have turned off Google Signals and advertising personalisation, and IP addresses are anonymised. We are measuring which pages get read, not building an advertising profile.

To change your mind, clear this site's data in your browser settings and the banner will ask again. Declining costs you nothing: the site behaves identically, and our cookie-free counter still records the visit, so we are not left blind either.

Who your browser contacts

• Cloudflare hosts this site and serves every page. As our hosting and security provider it processes your IP address and request headers to deliver pages and to block abuse.
• Google. Only if you accepted analytics. Your browser then loads the Google Analytics tag and sends it page views, an anonymised IP address and a cookie identifier. Decline and your browser never contacts Google at all.
• OpenStreetMap. The route map on each itinerary draws its map tiles from tile.openstreetmap.org, so your IP address reaches the OpenStreetMap Foundation when those tiles load. The map is deliberately loaded only when it scrolls into view, so if you never reach it, no request is made. The mapping software itself is served from this domain.

Each operates under its own privacy policy, which governs what it does with what it receives.

Everything else on the page comes from this domain. The typefaces are served from here rather than from Google Fonts, and the photographs from here rather than from Wikimedia Commons, where they are licensed from. Loading either from its original host would send your IP address to a third party on every page view, in exchange for a font file and a picture. The photographers are credited under each image regardless, because their licences require it and because it is correct.

What we do not do

• We set no cookies unless you accept analytics. We do use one small local storage entry to remember that choice, which is what stops the banner asking you on every page.
• We do not run advertising or advertising networks.
• We do not sell, rent or share data about you, because we hold none.
• We have no accounts, logins, contact forms, comment sections or mailing list, so there is nothing for you to submit.

If you write to us

Email sent to hello@travenity.com reaches an ordinary mailbox. We keep correspondence only as long as it is useful, typically until the question or correction is resolved, and we do not add senders to any list.

There are none on this site today. If we add them, the merchant you click through to may set its own cookies to attribute the referral, that will be disclosed on the pages carrying them, and this policy will be updated before the first link goes live. See how we make money.

Your rights

Under the UK and EU GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete and port personal data held about you, and to object to its processing. In practice we hold none, so for most requests the honest answer is that there is nothing to return or erase. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

Children

This site is intended for a general adult audience and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, most likely when affiliate links or advertising are introduced, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and any tracking that requires consent will ask for it before it loads, not afterwards.
