What this site is

Travenity publishes travel itineraries organised by how long you actually have. Most destination guides are written once, at one length, and leave you to work out what to cut. We write the longest route first, then cut it down deliberately: the same destination at fourteen days, ten, seven and five, with each shorter version stating what it dropped and why.

Every route carries a costed budget, real fares, real entry fees, and the date those figures were checked.

What we verify

Before an itinerary is published, the specific claims in it are checked against current sources:

• Transport connections. That the route is physically possible. That the train, bus or ferry exists, and roughly how long it takes.
• Fares and entry fees. Checked against operators and the sites themselves rather than aggregators, wherever one is available.
• Booking constraints. Timed entry, sell-out windows, free hours, and anything that has to be bought before you fly.
• Taxes and charges that do not appear in a room rate.

The date of the check is printed on the page, in the cost note and the standfirst. Prices move; a figure without a date is not a figure.

What we do not claim

We think that is the more useful document anyway. A personal account tells you what one person did in one season at one budget. A researched route can tell you what a ticket costs today, that a connection does not exist, and that a palace sells out two months ahead, which is the part that actually changes your plans.

Costs are estimates, clearly labelled as such: per person, mid-range, and converted at a stated exchange rate on a stated date. They are built from verified line items, but a budget is a projection and yours will differ.

When we get it wrong

We do, and the corrections are part of the method rather than an embarrassment to be quietly patched. A route on this site once routed between two cities with no direct service; a cost table once argued the opposite of what its own numbers showed. Both were found, fixed, and written down.

If you find an error (a fare that has moved, a connection that has changed, a museum that now closes on Tuesdays) please tell us. Corrections are the mail we read first.

Independence

Recommendations are ordered by what we think is best, never by what pays. There is no paid placement on this site and no sponsored itinerary. The full position, including how the site is funded, is on the how we make money page.

Photographs

Images are licensed from Wikimedia Commons and credited beneath each one. Every photograph is opened and checked before it is used, because a picture of the wrong place is a factual error like any other, and an itinerary with no photograph is more honest than one showing somewhere else.
