What is live today
There are currently no affiliate links on this site, and no advertising. Travenity earns nothing from your visit today. When that changes, this page changes with it, and the disclosure below will appear on every page carrying a paid link.
We are publishing this policy before we need it, because a disclosure written after the money starts is a document written under pressure.
The disclosure itself
When affiliate links are added, this notice appears on every page that carries one:
Some links here are affiliate links. If you book through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never changes what we recommend or where it sits on the page.
It is generated by the site template rather than typed by whoever wrote the article, so it cannot be forgotten on the one page where it matters.
How recommendations are ordered
By what we think is best, never by what pays. This is the only commitment on this page that is difficult to keep, so it is worth stating precisely what it means:
- A neighbourhood, hotel or route is recommended because of what it is, and its position on the page does not change if it starts paying.
- Where the better option earns us nothing (a free entry hour, a public bus instead of a booked transfer, a station locker instead of a second hotel) we say so. Several routes on this site are built around exactly those choices.
- We do not remove a criticism because a business has an affiliate programme, and we do not add one because it does not.
What we do not do
- No paid placement. Position cannot be bought.
- No sponsored itineraries. No route on this site has been commissioned or paid for by a destination, hotel or tour operator.
- No gifted stays or press trips currently underlie any article here. If that ever changes, the article will say so on its face, not in a footer.
- No reviews we have not verified. We do not republish other people's ratings as if they were our judgement.
How the budgets are built
Cost tables are assembled from individually checked line items (fares, entry fees, typical mid-range room rates, local transport) and converted at an exchange rate quoted with the date it was taken. They are estimates for one person travelling mid-range, and they are labelled that way.
We do not inflate a budget to make a booking link look better value, and we do not deflate one to make a trip look achievable. Where a route is expensive, the cost note says which line is responsible.
